As the Cow Patti Theatre Company prepares to enter its 30th season, Canadian producer and artist AnnaMarie Lea is reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting Canadian talent, Canadian businesses, and the creative industry that has supported her throughout more than four decades in theatre, film, and television.

The upcoming season will both complement and pay homage to the work of renowned American playwright Neil Simon and celebrated Canadian playwright Norm Foster, bringing together two distinct comic voices whose work has given audiences joy, hope, and laughter across generations and for decades.

“As a Canadian producer and artist, I have tremendous respect for playwrights, performers, theatre, film and television producers - all those who create opportunities on both sides of the border,” says Lea. “At the same time, I believe strongly in supporting Canadian talent first and foremost, along with the Canadian businesses and creative professionals who help make our productions possible.”

For the Cow Patti Theatre Company, this milestone season is not about choosing one country’s artists over another, but about recognizing how theatre can build bridges while still ensuring Canadian voices remain front and centre. In a time when conversations about Canada’s relationship with its neighbours to the south feel especially important, Lea believes the arts can offer a meaningful way forward.

“I believe that as producers, we can find a way to mend relations and continue to support the arts and the people involved—not by passport, but by creativity, talent, generosity, and the shared desire to give audiences something they need: laughter, hope, connection, and joy,” Lea adds.

As Cow Patti Theatre Company celebrates 30 years of producing theatre, the company remains committed to working with Canadian artists, crews, suppliers, and businesses wherever possible, while continuing to honour the playwrights and theatre-makers whose work resonates with audiences everywhere.
