Owen Hamilton has been making audiences laugh since before he ever set foot on stage, just ask his sister. One of his favourite Christmas memories involves his dad jokingly telling him to wake her up by jumping on her. Owen took it literally, she was not impressed, and yet it’s a story they now laugh about every holiday season. That mix of humour, heart and a touch of mischief makes Owen a perfect fit for Cow Patti’s holiday production of Ethan Claymore’s Christmas.
Owen has been acting for six years on the amateur stage and has built up two years of professional theatre experience, including the chance to work alongside Cow Patti favourite AnneMarie Lea. This year, he returns to the Tin Roof Event Centre ready to share Norm Foster’s heartwarming holiday comedy with Central Alberta audiences.
When it comes to Christmas traditions, Owen’s family is delightfully unconventional. Instead of a big dinner on December 25, the Hamiltons save that for Boxing Day. Christmas Day itself is reserved for a McDonald’s buffet, and Owen happily claims that as his favourite holiday meal. Add in his love for the Barenaked Ladies’ Christmas album and the classic movie A Christmas Story, and you’ve got someone who embraces the festive season with equal parts quirk and charm.
Owen also wears his heart on his sleeve. His all-time favourite childhood gift was an electric drum set — one that made him cry tears of joy. More recently, he counts a bottle of cologne among his best presents, since it earned him his first kiss. Whether behind a drum kit or on stage under the lights, Owen thrives on the rhythm of connection.
When asked who he’d share Christmas morning with, Owen didn’t hesitate: his dad. That bond, coupled with his advice to his younger self — “Ask questions” — reveals someone who values both curiosity and connection.
And of course, being a proud Albertan, Owen admits his favourite thing about this province is the Edmonton Oilers. Hockey, McDonald’s, and a Barenaked Ladies soundtrack… It’s an eclectic mix, but one that fits Owen’s playful, grounded personality to a tee.
This Christmas, as he steps into Ethan Claymore’s Christmas, Owen Hamilton brings not only his experience and enthusiasm, but also that spark of humour that turns even a sibling wake-up call into a memory worth keeping.
